While I was working on the idea of this book, my pictures (I always attempted to make him smile for me) opened a floodgate of the intimate memories that I share here with you.  If I may humbly say this, I don’t think of this as “my book” because Guru Ram Das and Yogiji saw me through it, and it took on a life of its own.

The Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan) said about his work: “This man was able to do what I could never do; he accurately told the history of this world in his painting, and perfectly predicted the events of man up to 5,000 years into the future. O’Brien will be known in the history of man from this time forth and books will be written on his works. Pilgrimages will be made to see his murals and the power of his faith captured in paint.”

Every Heartbeat” is designed to heal mental pain by giving hope and a deep understanding of spiritual truth. “God is Within Me” is wonderful as background music or for meditation. This soothing album with beautiful lyrics feels as if it removes the worries of the world. The voice of Nirinjan Kaur has a rare quality that is soothing, meditative, and truthful. The ancient traditional chants are enhanced with English lyrics written by  Yogi Ji , master of white tantric yoga and Kundalini Yoga. These lyrics contain the essence of the ancient chants and together, the two languages create a powerful synergy.

As was in the time of Guru Nanak, so it is today.  Individual and social pressure and oppression continue.  The technology of Guru Nanak lives.  When practiced, it creates the same self-empowerment which Guru Arjan Dev ji demonstrated.  We have only to look to the example of all the great Sikhs who have come before us to witness the practical power of Guru Nanak’s technology. Oppression can never touch the one who realizes his right to be human, who has the experience through his own identity as the One.

Guru Ram Das Ashram in Hamburg is not an outpost in 1988. Kundalini Yoga and humanology are growing so fast that we cannot keep track of what is happening everywhere. There is a dynamic force which has expanded beyond linear organizational limits. There are at least 280 Europeans teaching the yoga and sharing the information everywhere.

1986 was declared the “YEAR OF PEACE” by the United Nations. Knowing that Peace needs Prayer, the Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan) planted the seed for Peace Prayer Day 1986, in June of 1985 at the Summer Solstice Celebration in New Mexico. Well, the result of his inspired idea was an event that was magnificent!

This article was originally published in a 1980 issue of Beads of Truth.

In February of 1977 the Siri Singh Sahib and about a dozen of his staff and aides sat down to review potential sites for a permanent location for the Summer Solstice Sadhana. An exhaustive search had been conducted of all available properties within a hundred mile radius of the Española Ashram and as each property was presented to him, he flatly turned it down.

After overcoming our initial surprise, everybody realized that this was the challenge the artists had been waiting for: a focus for our creative energy at the Solstice site. It was immediately apparent to us all that the Guru was the only artist great enough to do such an immense job in such a short time. It would have to be a group effort.

Yogi Bhajan identified the causes of drug dependence in America.  “America, he said “is a credit economy.  This creates pressure on the nerves and when one does not know how to relax, one turns to drugs, alcohol and smoking.”  He also knew that a major cause of drug abuse was the depression and insecurity due to the decay of the American Family and the erosion of the institution of marriage.  “We must build a drug free nation if we are to survive, and we must go into the root cause of drug use – a broken unhappy home.”
