Kundalini Yoga for Endometriosis in Italy

Amandev Kaur (Alessandra Bruziches) from Rome, Italy, has been a practitioner and certified teacher of Kundalini Yoga for 25 years.

She suffers from endometriosis, a progressive inflammatory disease that does not only affect the female reproductive system, but also involves other organs. In fact, it can affect the tubes, ovaries, peritoneum, large ligaments of the uterus, uterosacral ligaments, rectum, ureters, liver, lungs, diaphragm, pleura and pericardium.

Endometriosis is a disease that can be extremely disabling even if it is sometimes completely asymptomatic. It’s a disease that affects the identity dimension of the person: in social, sexual and psychological relationships. Chronic pain leads women to suffer from anxiety, mood swings, depression and limits their social, relational and work activities. Today, it is estimated that there are over 3 million people affected by endometriosis.

I started the Kundalini Yoga for Endometriosis project in 2020, during the Covid pandemic period. This was a very delicate period in which many women were left completely alone to face a chronic and extremely painful illness.

I wanted to bring my experience with Kundalini Yoga to serve everyone dealing with this illness, to provide human and concrete support. Regular KY practice allowed me to appreciate its benefits and helped me expand awareness and mitigate suffering by seeking harmony between body, mind and soul. “The balance between these elements is the key to living healthy, happy and holy”, as Yogi Bhajan stated. This is why I feel it is fundamental that the Master’s teachings are made available to the community of women affected by endometriosis who have learned through techniques, breathing and meditation to have a greater awareness of their physical and mental body.
