Beads of Truth

You have the birthright to be happy. You are not happy because you are competing and comparative with something over which you have no control. You have no control over Infinity. And if you have no control over Infinity, don’t try to control it. Flow with it, you can reach anywhere. Fight with it, you’ll be unhappy. Happiness is your birthright. It cannot be taken away from you.

The history of our 3HO family is recorded in our songs, but many of the memories of our nation are tied to our taste buds!

In 1969, the Siri Singh Sahib‘s presence permeated every aspect of our evolving lifestyle and his touch with food and the concept of healthy, conscious, vegetarian eating was a welcome antidote to people raised on too much of everything America had to offer.

Guru Ram Das Ashram in Hamburg is not an outpost in 1988. Kundalini Yoga and humanology are growing so fast that we cannot keep track of what is happening everywhere. There is a dynamic force which has expanded beyond linear organizational limits. There are at least 280 Europeans teaching the yoga and sharing the information everywhere.

1986 was declared the “YEAR OF PEACE” by the United Nations. Knowing that Peace needs Prayer, the Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan) planted the seed for Peace Prayer Day 1986, in June of 1985 at the Summer Solstice Celebration in New Mexico. Well, the result of his inspired idea was an event that was magnificent!

Gurbani is nothing but a total illustrated, facilitated science of naad for human knowledge. It is an individual effort. Read Gurbani in the way Guru says it, and understand it, and you will be in such ecstasy you will not believe it! Concentration on the construction of the word, and the sound is the proper way to recite Gurbani. As you are creating the sound, the meaning will automatically come to you, now or later. It is just a matter of time and space. You must listen to your own construction of the Gurbani. This is the technical way in Naad Yoga.

Guru is the Guiding Word for the Sikh, the student of Truth. But what does the word Guru mean?

Literally, Guru means in the Sanskrit original, “from dark to light.” It refers to that technology, that source, which takes us from the darkness of ignorance to the light of God.

In the historic sense, Guru is the Word of God as spoken by the founder of the Sikh faith, Guru Nanak, who in his ecstasy of love for God sang about the nature of God and man.

The Sikh sings these poetic songs of Nanak, and so comes to love and live with the Guru’s word implanted in the heart, mind and soul. He may express that love of the Guru in many ways — the Guru is his breath of life, his sustenance, most personal friend, companion, source of divine wisdom and joy. The Word of the Guru is the path on which a Sikh walks. By obeying the word of the Guru the Sikh is transformed, healed and he becomes a source of light and wisdom for others.

Guru Nanak wrote his songs and passed them on to his successors who also sang God’s praise in their own poetic style. These compositions, along with others of the same divine inspiration were compiled by the Fifth Guru, Guru Arjan Dev, and brought together in the form of a Granth. A Granth, from the sanskrit root, means that which “ties one to the Infinite Master.”

The whole language of Gurbani has the power to make a person divine, just in its recitation, if done correctly. One need not be concerned with the meaning for a change in consciousness. Bani has to be understood by the heart, not by the head. There is no power in the head, it is in the heart. The head is for God and the heart is for you. That is why Guru Gobind Singh asked for the head, and not for the heart. “Whosoever lives with head to God and heart for self, that prayer is complete.

The three arrived from the East that day.
They had come to gather the people to say:
“We’re here in order to take a stand,
We’re here in order to change this land.
This nation is sick, its direction wrong.
We three have come to gather the strong.”
What three could make a statement so bold?
Their presence had left you with nothing untold.
These three that stood and walked as one:
Magnificence of spirit; sons of the sun.

If you want to study with me, three things you must do:

1) Never get into a secret mantra or secret initiation. The Mother Kundalini will diversify you, and you will not be happy here, neither will you be happy in heavens. It is a terrible mistake a person can make. Any practitioner of Kundalini must not go into any kind of secret knowledge, it is the first law of this knowledge.

2) Join the practice with reverence and leave it with reverence. Because as all rivers get into the ocean, all knowledge is meant to raise the kundalini. Negating this Mother Divine Power, this creative power of God, sometimes does not have happy results.

3) You must not forget, a practitioner of Kundalini Yoga must not disrespect a woman under any form and shape. If you can carry out these three instructions, the result will be very quick, wonderful and delightful. If you break any law, it is your karma, God bless you.

God is making the destiny of the United States as He wishes. This country was started with the slogan, “In God We Trust.” Start talking and start writing, and also start making up your mind that you don’t believe what is being told and said. You do believe in one thing: WE DON’T WANT A NUCLEAR WAR. Make a contribution. Call all the religious groups and give them a talk. In your office or business, put a sign. “We don’t want nuclear war.” These little funny things may look very little to you, but they are very effective. Simple things, simple methods, and simple gestures can bring a flood of people on your side.

Sahaj Pad and Sat Pad are the beautiful stages of life to which all beings aspire. They cannot be reached without going through Shakti Pad. Like a dark forest that surrounds a hidden garden, Shakti Pad obscures the light and hides the real beauty and meaning of life. It serves a purpose and is a stage of life devoutly to be wished for. If your heart is pure, you will make it through. It is nothing to be feared. Rather, it is a condition to be longed for. If you are in Shakti Pad now, be grateful and hang on. You are almost to your goal.

This article was originally published in a 1980 issue of Beads of Truth.

In February of 1977 the Siri Singh Sahib and about a dozen of his staff and aides sat down to review potential sites for a permanent location for the Summer Solstice Sadhana. An exhaustive search had been conducted of all available properties within a hundred mile radius of the Española Ashram and as each property was presented to him, he flatly turned it down.

…these past moments are never past. They are always right here if we only have the consciousness to perceive it. In this light, it is notable that a tremendous portion of the ardaas is concerned with remembrance. I have seen how this whole idea of remembrance has laced itself in and out of my life over the years and how in my dark moments I could not remember any of these experiences. I recall so distinctly how when a couple of years ago I called you and said that I was leaving 3HO you asked, ” Why did you come onto this path?”, and I replied, “I have no idea, I can’t remember”.  Thank God this vision has been given to me and may it never leave.

Go on finding God. If God won’t find you, can you find Him? Can anybody find such a thing as God? It is a most unfortunate thing if you ever say it, because you are already a part of God. What are you going to find? Those who are part of God don’t find God, they live as God. Either you live as God or you are going to keep on ‘finding’ God. No miracle can bring you to God. God is a relationship of your unit consciousness with the Universal consciousness. It is you. It is yourself. It is that your lower self must surrender to your higher self. You must discipline yourself.
