The Call of Duty
A poem about the Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan by Gurutej Singh Khalsa on April 18, 1996
For the Call of Duty he rises each day,
Though his body cries out and begs to stay,
But Duty is his Sovereign, so he serves to obey,
Then, with bright eyes flashing he enters the fray.
The pain runs deep, yet he stands tall and proud,
He does not falter, nor cry aloud,
He has never retreated, never cowed,
For to his Sacred Self, his head is bowed.
However painful the job may be,
However difficult the choice he sees,
Whatever the Call of Duty may be,
He always delivers unto Victory.
His heart, though broken, continues to shine
With that shimmering radiance we call Divine,
Magnified by the shining steel of his spine,
Yet, he makes no claim and denies, “Not mine.”
The Call of Duty is the song he sings,
The Way of Duty is the Path he brings,
Devotion to Duty is what it means
For those who call themselves Kaurs and Singhs.
The Call of Duty has brought him here
And the Call of Duty has made it clear
That WE must stand and dismiss our fear,
Then carry his mission, far and near.
