They learn the Secret of practicing the Nam,
Controlling the breath, they meditate on God.
They righteously earn the Profit of God’s Name,
They share with others and serve God thereby,
They know the Art of Yogic Living,
And, serving God…
They become God!

Through the pure essence of water,
Our Father,
We come face to face
With Reality.
With the breath of life,
The five Banis are sung.
The Five Beloved Ones return again and again
To bring each Sikh
Into the presence
Of the Guru.

The fortunate bride dresses and decorates herself,
Union is her one desire!
When form merges into form,
Salvation is attained.
Give your body, mind and wealth to your Guru,
Serve the ones who serve the Saint,
Then Peace fills your heart …
And the sweetest fruit is yours!

THE FAITHFUL WIFE
My Beloved is shining!
Hers is the radiant light of the four crossroads.
Four states of consciousness in which we all live.
That woman who is pure, her virtue is supreme.
Through her virtuous deeds, she is called
The Faithful Wife.

Ravana is the symbol of the violent, kinetic, unbridled ego. Here the Siri Singh Sahib is saying that people call him many things. Some see him as a hero, and some see him as a demon. But in the midst of it all, he simply bows his forehead wherever the True Guru lives and utters God’s Name!

This poem is a loving and humble self-portrait. Here the Siri Singh Sahib tells how Guru Ram Das granted him his blessings and protection so that he could become a vehicle for the fulfillment of Guru Gobind Singh’s prophecy that the Khalsa will become 960 million strong. This is really a hymn of heartfelt gratitude from the Siri
Singh Sahib to Guru Ram Das for elevating him from the lowest to the highest.

By serving my Spiritual Teacher,
Egolessly, I merged with God.
Through the Power of Raj Yoga,
I became the very Image of the Infinite.

The Spiritual Teacher takes you to God.
Oh Yogi! Seeing God everywhere,
And merging with Him,
There is no forty days of fasting,
But only a constant Festival of Joy!
Rare is the one
Who learns
From a Man of God!

Our essential nature is to reach for the essence of life.
The technology of the Spirit is alive and flowing.
The Power of God is Endless.
Rare is the one
Who learns
From a Man of God!

Thinking and thinking
The world is dying.
You can’t know anything by thinking.
Between one action and the next
There is just a tiny gap.
Who can you trust?
By living the Dharmic life
We move the world along.
Whoever the True King blesses
Becomes the King of kings.

Hey you!
THE JOB OF LOVE
(Praym-Kaar)
Man of the world.
You’re a Professional!
You know how to take care of yourself.
What do you know about me?
You don’t recognize me at all.

Yogi Bhajan asked me to gather together all the poems he had written in Gurmukhi and translate them into English. The result was a book titled “Furmaan Khalsa” (the command of the Khalsa).
Yogi Bhajan. Part man part myth; part saint and part warrior. Within these pages lies one of the most extraordinary works of the twentieth century; a manual of conscious living written in the form of 108 luminous and inspiring poems. Based on the science of human consciousness called Raj Yoga, and writ ten as a guide for all the future generations, these poems answer the questions of how to live successfully with an open heart and an open mind in the midst of the turmoil of the modern world. . . how to experience your cosmic identity as a man or woman. . . how to raise children who are strong, secure and fearless. What does it mean to love and be loved? What are the physical, mental, and spiritual effects of what we eat and drink, and how can we unlock the unused potential energies within, so that we can really become effective to create positive changes within ourselves and in the world?

Someday your chair will be empty.
The very blades of grass shall grieve,
And the mountain tops shall shriek in pain at the loss.
This planet in, all its agony and darkness, has had one hope,
One glimmer of light, that you brought in your humble way.
